Rev. William A. Schaefer, Pastor
Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! My name is Bill Schaefer and I have been the pastor of Prince of Peace since June of 2008. My wife, Jennifer and I have two children, Noah and Angeline. I graduated from Penn State University in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary and Kindergarten Education. After a few years, I realized that God was calling me to serve in a new way as a pastor. I began attending the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg (now part of United Lutheran Seminary) in 1996 and graduated from there with a Master of Divinity degree in 2000. I was ordained as a pastor at my home congregation in Hazleton, PA on May 27, 2000 and began my first call at two church in Kittanning and Ford City, PA that June. I served there until I began as the pastor here at Prince of Peace on June 17, 2008. I have since been blessed to serve God as the pastor of this congregation and throughout the Southwestern Pennsylvania Synod and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
I would like to invite you to come and experience the joy of knowing Christ as you gather in communion with the people of God here at Prince of Peace. As we are Living, Learning, and Growing the Word of God, we seek to know Him better and begin to fully understand the calling that has been given to us in each of our Baptisms.
We are Living in the Gospel when we touch the lives of others with the power of Jesus Christ through our words and our deeds. We Live the Gospel by seeing Jesus in every person who we meet and interact with each day. We are Living in the Gospel when we worship and we come together bring our thanks and praise for the many gifts that He has given to us. It is in our worship that we come to experience Christ more deeply in the hearing of His Word and in the Sacraments of Holy Baptism and Holy Communion. From our worship, we are filled with power of the Holy Spirit to be led out into the world to Live as the children of God in the Latrobe community.
It is in Learning that we understand what the Gospel of Christ means for us. We Learn through Worship, through Christian Education, by being in Fellowship with each other and by caring for each other as Christ cares for us. Our Learning never ends and helps us to be a people of God who are filled with hope and compassion.
We are Growing because the Gospel transforms us from our life without Christ to a life filled with Him and His love for us. We Grow because the Holy Spirit guides us through prayer and reading of scripture. We Grow when we plant and Grow the Gospel in those who are around us at work, through a neighbor or in a person we meet in a diner.
As you explore this website, know that it is filled with only a sample of the ways that the people of Prince of Peace are Living, Learning and Growing the Word of God in the Latrobe Community. We believe that it is through every word, action and movement in our lives that we serve God. It is our calling as His disciples to be doers of the Word as well as speakers of the Word in the world. We are to example of faith, active in love.
I hope that through these pages that you find our congregation to be a place for you and your family to seek God's grace for you. Come and see the difference that Christ can make in your life. Visit with us and I am sure that you will come to feel as comfortable as my family and I have become in this family of God.
Yours in Christ,
Pastor Bill Schaefer
